Feng Shui means "wind and water” when literally translated.
Finding a balance between these two elements allows positive energy,
or Ch'i, to flow freely.
Homes located near a water source and protected from the wind
by hills or mountains are considered ideal. We recreate this desirable
environment by balancing elements within an area, allowing Ch’i
to enter and enhance the space in countless ways.
Feng Shui is really all about balance, striking and maintaining
a nice equilibrium between yin and yang, as well as the five elements
(Wood, Water, Metal, Earth and Fire) throughout any interior
or exterior space. It is about ridding one's place (hence, life)
of clutter, and keeping only those things we hold nearest and
dearest, letting go of that which we have long since abandoned
sentimentally or have no further need of. Energy gets stuck in
piles of papers, old clothing, broken furnishings that have been
banished to the garage or basement. Energy thrives in clean, uncluttered
spaces, in comfortable furniture, in the ever-present dance of
masculine and feminine.
Balance is the key to living; and while yoga and meditation help
us to balance our bodies and minds, so feng shui does the same for
our homes, work places, gardens and backyards. |
